PURE ABODE || A Tranquil Family Retreat in the Heart of Foshan

Can a home be a sanctuary that nurtures both serenity and spontaneity?
Pure Abode, a 286-square-meter family residence in Foshan, Guangdong, makes a compelling case. Designed by c.dd, this meticulously crafted dwelling balances the rigors of contemporary urban living with the soothing embrace of nature. Through its innovative "Four Gardens" concept, the home dissolves the boundaries between inside and out, allowing its inhabitants—two parents and their three children—to experience the ever-changing rhythms of nature in their daily routines.
A sculptural foyer welcomes residents with a seamless fusion of stone, wood, and greenery, evoking a sense of tranquility.
A Home Rooted in Nature
At the heart of Pure Abode is an ethos of seamless integration between architecture and the natural world. The design team transformed two separate residential units into a singular, expansive home, capitalizing on the original floor plan’s dual entrances and balconies. This layout is the foundation for the "Four Gardens" concept, where each of the home's four cardinal points features a distinct natural landscape. Lush greenery spills into the interiors, softening the home’s clean lines while encouraging an organic, sensory-rich lifestyle.
Upon entering, the foyer establishes an immediate dialogue with nature. A harmonious blend of stone and warm wood tones creates a tactile, grounding effect, while curvilinear ceiling treatments and sculpted planter beds introduce a sense of fluidity. These elements mimic the ebb and flow of nature, setting a serene tone that extends throughout the home.
Fluid Spaces, Boundless Possibilities
Rather than confining each function within rigid boundaries, Pure Abode embraces openness. The living, dining, and kitchen areas interweave in an uninterrupted expanse, fostering both connectivity and versatility. Expansive glass facades dissolve visual barriers, allowing natural light to sculpt the interiors while framing views of the verdant gardens.
The open-plan dining and kitchen area is a study in warmth and simplicity, with natural wood finishes and bold marble accents.
A minimalist aesthetic reigns throughout, yet it is far from austere. Textural contrasts—smooth marble countertops against tactile wood paneling, refined stone juxtaposed with woven leather accents—add depth and warmth. A carefully curated color palette of soft neutrals further enhances the home's tranquil atmosphere.
A Family Haven Designed for Growth
Adaptability is key for a household with three children. The design team integrated multifunctional elements to encourage play, creativity, and learning. A custom-built structure seamlessly fuses a bookshelf with a slide, transforming a reading nook into an interactive play area. Elsewhere, modular seating arrangements allow the living space to shift between a cozy gathering spot, an impromptu play zone, or a quiet retreat.
Layered textures and earthy tones create a seamless flow between the dining and living areas, fostering a sense of openness.
Safety considerations are subtly woven into the design. Rounded edges on walls and furniture mitigate potential hazards, ensuring that the home remains a sanctuary in every sense. Generous concealed storage solutions maintain a clutter-free environment, preserving the purity of the space while accommodating the evolving needs of a growing family.
A Sanctuary for the Senses
The bedrooms extend the home’s philosophy of serenity and connection to nature. Soft, curved lines and muted tones create an environment conducive to rest and introspection. Here, distractions fade, allowing the senses to recalibrate and the mind to unwind.
The simple aesthetic continues throughout the resting quarters of the residence, with elegant handles and warm wooden finishes.
Throughout Pure Abode, the interplay of materiality, light, and nature crafts an immersive living experience—one where every element is attuned to the rhythms of family life. This home is not merely a place of residence but a living, breathing space that evolves with its inhabitants, embodying a vision of harmonious, nature-infused modern living.
