Inside VICIO’s Playful HQ || A New Era of Workspaces Where Creativity Meets Fun
In Barcelona's bustling neighbourhood of Gràcia, an old theatre has transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity and innovation.
This transformation is none other than the new headquarters of VICIO, Spain’s trendiest burger brand. The project, spearheaded by the acclaimed architecture firm External Reference, embodies a playful and modern workspace that revolutionizes conventional office design.
Carmelo Zappulla, the visionary behind External Reference, crafted the headquarters with an audacious concept that marries fun with functionality. The essence of VICIO’s brand—youthful, fresh, and daring—is palpably infused throughout the space. Upon entering, employees and visitors are greeted by an ambiance reminiscent of the iconic VICIO restaurants, also designed by External Reference, ensuring a seamless brand experience from the get-go.
A key highlight of the headquarters is the Playground, the central atrium that serves as a collaborative nexus. Here, the design elements encourage spontaneous interaction and creative collaboration. Two imposing slides in pure white, spiralling down to the main floor, are not just functional but also symbolize the dynamic and unconventional spirit of VICIO. These slides, along with a large, versatile worktable and cozy stepped seating areas, invite employees to engage in a more relaxed and imaginative work style.
The office areas are cleverly situated in what was once the theatre’s proscenium, turning the everyday tasks of VICIO’s employees into performances. This theatrical arrangement is enhanced by the use of transparent materials and elevated platforms, ensuring that the energy and buzz of the central Playground permeate throughout the building.
Further integrating the brand’s identity, the office utilizes a minimalist colour palette punctuated by the signature VICIO red. This bold colour not only energizes the space but also highlights the areas of engagement and interaction, such as meeting rooms and casual workspaces nestled in red niches along the corridors.
Materials and textures play a crucial role in balancing the playful aspects with a professional ethos. The use of warm woods and soft lighting contrasts with the industrial feel of exposed metal and glass, creating an environment that is both welcoming and inspirational.
VICIO’s headquarters is more than just a workplace; it’s a testament to the brand’s commitment to innovation and community. It’s a place where the barriers between work and play blur, fostering an environment where creativity can flourish. This daring approach not only enhances employee satisfaction and productivity but also sets a new standard for office design, prioritizing well-being and enjoyment in the workplace.
