LAKE AUSTIN CABIN || This is What A Lakefront Cozy Cabin Getaway Should Look Like
If asked to describe your ideal lakefront cabin hideout, what would that look like?
For us, it would be a cozy setting. The cabin doesn’t have to be big because a getaway from the bright lights and crowds of the city is best experienced in an intimate setting; where we can turn off our cell phones, listen to the sounds of the water, wander along the lakefront to take in the scenic view, and rest in the evening as we sink into the sofa.
Lake Austin Cabin, designed by Architect Jared Haas, brings the vision of a private lakefront oasis to life. Located on an undeveloped 5-acre lot that had been a gathering place for the client’s family since the 1970s, this area known as The Narrows is just a few miles outside of downtown Austin. The owners insisted on a simple, humble, yet unique cabin to host their family gatherings and quiet weekend retreats.
From outside, one can see an expansive deck which would be perfect to host barbecues during the summertime, or to enjoy a beer in the evening as the sun sets. Board-form concrete planters are used to frame the deck, which are easy to maintain throughout the year and virtually maintenance free.
The cabin is designed for a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience, with large sliding doors leading out from the combined and open kitchen-living-dining area onto the deck. This design helps to draw in an abundance of natural light while also framing the beautiful and tranquil surrounding environment. Although the entire living space measures in at just 480 sq ft, the open layout gives the space a sense of openness and the use of floor-to-ceiling windows makes the space appear larger.
This small cabin, nicknamed ‘Cousin Cabana’, certainly delivers on the owners’ request of being simple yet unique. Not only is the design cozy and inviting, but it’s also been designed to withstand the test of time. Natural materials and methods such as an ipe wood rain screen siding, custom floor-to-ceiling face-glazed steel windows and the board-formed concrete planters ensure the lakefront residence would be maintenance-free for years.
From our standpoint, a hassle-free cabin like this would be the ideal lakefront oasis. Wouldn’t you agree?
