LOFT CHARTIER || The Perfect Weekend Home

A well-appointed airy loft would make for the perfect weekend getaway. Wouldn’t you agree?

Loft Chartier designed by Studiocolnaghi was created for exactly this purpose, to act as a weekend home for a young couple. The design is as practical as it is beautiful. The cozy home fits all of the required necessities and creates the perception of a larger space with the use of carefully chosen design elements. Windows in the kitchen and dining area and sliding doors opening to the balcony from the living area draws in natural light to brighten up the home.

A vibrant blue wall on one side of the entry corridor is used to contrast against Flavio Scholles’ yellow painting — a statement piece to welcome the couple into their home. Across from the painting, there is a mirror and marble panel which aligns with the material palette used for the hangers in the entryway.

To contrast against the brutalist aspect of the apartment, the team designed a wood ceiling at the main entrance, and wood elements are used throughout the home from the flooring to the walls to add warmth and comfort. Having the use of wood extending from the flooring to the ceiling also creates the impression of a bigger space.

The dining table is placed just beyond the entryway corridor, used to define the kitchen and dining area from the rest of the home. Lighting strips on the ceiling run the length of the home, adding a clean and minimalistic touch to the home. Shelving is integrated into the area above the kitchen sink and on the dining table to provide easy to access storage areas in the kitchen.

Ideally situated as a corner unit, the living area lends itself to a comfortable set up with views of the lush greenery outside. Light, billowy drapes provide privacy during the daytime while not blocking out the scenic view beyond the window. On a nice day, the owners can step outside through the sliding doors to enjoy the sunshine on the wraparound balcony.

The team highlights that the selection of furniture was key to create a relaxing and welcoming vibe of the living room. The Saccaro armchair, Bubble, in green, provides a focal point for colour and texture contrast against the other furniture in the room and provides a break from the neutral, beige colour palette found in the other furniture pieces.

Another Saccaro item, the Bubble leather puff in a warm, luxurious caramel brown, contrasts well against the centre table. Studiocolnaghi designed both the sofa with a mix of unique and complementary textures and colours along with the centre marble table; these pieces were customized to align with the material palette selected for the interior design, creating consistency across the spaces within the home.

The bedroom walls use a calming gray color, creating a more relaxed mood to help the homeowners relax and unwind. An off-white leather bed provides contrast against the darker walls and elegant bedside tables with nero marquina marble details. To fit with the weekend home theme, the team designed the wardrobe to be an open space, to make it easy for the couple to navigate the bedroom space and find a spot for their suitcase.

Loft Chartier eloquently redefines how much space we really need, and what weekend homes should look like with a minimalist and contemporary open space design. The living and dining area’s use of a warmer material and color palette in contrast to the bedroom’s darker colors signifies the team’s understanding of how to create different moods within each space within the home.
