bills Hawaii || A Hearty Menu to Satisfy a Surfer's Appetite
Where’s your go-to place for brunch? We know when we are in Honolulu, Hawaii, bills Hawaii with their fluffy ricotta pancakes is the perfect start to a sunny day.
Upon entering on the first floor, we were greeted by by a quaint first-floor shop for Maison Kitsune, and the shop staff warmly greeted us and directed us upstairs where the restaurant floor is.
The interior decoration truly brings the outside in, with warm wooden planks lining the walls, large mirrors reflecting natural light, and a large skylight to invite in the sunshine from above. Lush greenery dresses up the quieter corners and act as a centrepiece for the restaurant. Wicker chairs with a vintage look and soft leather booths create a laid-back, Hawaiian atmosphere where one can kick back and relax for hours on end.
Our waitress greeted us warmly and we promptly ordered two classics: Ricotta Hotcakes with Banana and Honeycomb Butter, and the Full Aussie with creamy scrambled waimanalo eggs, sourdough toast, cumin roast tomato, bacon, miso mushrooms, pork and fennel sausage. Yes, we were definitely hungry.
The Ricotta Hotcakes take around twenty minutes to make, so we decided to fill ourselves with the savoury dish first, the Full Aussie breakfast. Our favourite component of the dish were the creamy, almost runny scrambled eggs and the fresh, juicy cumin roast tomatoes. The miso mushrooms also pack a ton of flavour, richly marinated in miso sauce.
Following the delicious savoury meal, we satisfied our sweets cravings with the Ricotta Hotcakes. Confident we would be able to ‘walk off’ this indulgent meal, we split the three hotcakes between the two of us and rapidly devoured it. To give ourselves the illusion of being healthy while being on vacation, we ordered the bills raw, made with almond milk, lsa, raw cacao, maca, banana, and honey.
Close to an hour and a half later we emerged from bills Hawaii, energized to take on the rest of the day (which consisted mainly of long walks by the beach and lots of cold drinks to combat the delightful summer Hawaiian heat).
