WELCOME HOME || This Bright and Airy Apartment in Prague Strikes the Perfect Balance of Pattern and Modernity
I was in awe from the moment I saw the kitchen.
My follow-up thought was, 'Would it be feasible to have the architects work on my next home?'
The interior design for this Prague apartment is striking. It's the perfect blend of light, pattern, colour, unexpected curves and a subdued material palette. The unique floor tiles and strategically placed pops of colour accent the home at just the right moments, creating a photo-worthy environment one would relish living in.
StudioNo Architects describes the project as a bright apartment in a new building with large terraces and views of Prague where one cooks, eats, and works, where children play, watch TV, read, create and sleep. A tour of the apartment will instantly reveal how the interior is well-suited for all these daily needs.
The redesign required an overhaul of the layout, where the designers turned part of the original living room into a study, playroom and guest room. The sliding doors disappear seamlessly beside the bookcases and can open to create a more expansive space. In addition, the segmentation of the area made it more practical for family living.
The spacious living and dining room is where the family can come together and socialize, whether it's gathering around the centrepiece sofa to watch a movie or sitting on the other side to take in the views and the refreshing breeze from the terrace. Three sets of windowed doors provide a sweeping view of the city beyond. The kitchen is intentionally oriented towards the dining and seating area to encourage conversation and interaction between family members even while the cook in the family is preparing a meal. Not to mention the chef also gets to enjoy the beautiful views beyond the windows.
Playful tiles, patterns, and colours are used to delineate the space instead of traditional doors. For example, the kitchen utilizes an attention-grabbing floor tile pattern and baby blue cabinets to illustrate the boundaries of the kitchen area.
The colourful elements also find their way into the other rooms within the home, and the team selected furniture to suit each of the occupants, such as the colourful yellow closet and reading nook in the children's bedroom, a cobalt blue console table and wooden shelving above it to accent the corridor with picture books for the children.
Now, for the adults in the family, The study features a baby blue work desk by the window with ample natural light for a comfortable work-from-home environment. Finally, the master bedroom utilizes a calming, neutral palette throughout, incorporating similar playful curves found in the rest of the home and dimmed lighting to ensure a good night's rest.
The Prague Apartment by StudioNo Architects shows how the team is attuned to the needs of the family, with social, entertaining, and private spaces for times when people want to come together and for times when everyone needs their alone time. The project successfully presents a relaxing and inviting environment for a family to settle in and grow.
