The One Shot Mercat 09 Hotel is made for cultural travellers who want to fully immerse in the dynamic art scene of Valencia, Spain.

Mercat 09 is the newest addition to the boutique hotel chain ‘One Shot’, a boutique hotel chain that can be found across many major cities in Spain. The young and emerging chain in Europe is characterized by its luxury boutique-style accommodations, which focus on giving guests a unique and authentic experience by incorporating design elements embracing the history, character and culture of the city it resides in.

To create a uniquely Valencian boutique hotel, local design studio Nonna Design was commissioned for the Mercat 09 project to design and manufacture the furniture for the hotel.

The 22-room hotel is housed within a charming historic building in the iconic Central Market neighbourhood, an area highlighted by an abundance of heritage architecture. To capture the essence of the surrounding, the design team paid special attention on blending bespoke furniture, art pieces, and custom decor into the space. The result is a visually appealing interior balanced by functionality, giving guests a luxurious, boutique experience and a taste of Valencia in every corner.

“Upon receiving the project proposal for this hotel, the main challenge was to ensure that all the furniture was integrated into the environment.”

The biggest challenge for Nonna Design was to create a distinct character for each of the 22 rooms within Mercat 09. “Instead of being a 22-room project, it has been treated as if it were 22 projects in one.” described Nonna Design. The intention is to give each room its unique presence and to incorporate an element of surprise for guests, as well as provide revisiting guests a one-of-a-kind experience with each visit.

By incorporating modern and classical Valencian art with state-of-the technology and modern furnishing details, the design team created spaces where all elements coexist in perfect harmony. In the featured bedroom, dark neutral tones are used to evoke a sense of luxury without taking away from the centrepiece of the room: a classical renaissance-style painting cleverly placed on the room ceiling which pays tribute to the vivid art history of Spain.

The hotel lobby welcomes guests with a bright and airy space filled with artwork. While guests wait to check into their room, they can stroll through the minimal, exhibit-like space filled with ancient artifacts and modern art, all highlighting Valencia’s vibrant art scene and fine, artisanal craftsmanship.

Hotel guests can also enjoy hotel amenities like the outdoor pool, a great place to lounge and soak-up the sun during the warmer months.
