THE WAREHOUSE HOTEL || Restored 19th Century Warehouse in Singapore

Who knew living in a warehouse can be so luxurious?

In the case of The Warehouse Hotel in Singapore, you can be sure your stay will be a comfortable one. Situated in a conserved building off Robertson Quay, the three warehouses share a uniform, symmetrical facade and its jagged roof is a head-turner for passerby. The Warehouse Hotel's roots extend far back to Singapore's trading history in the early 19th century, and original design elements like the louvre windows, doors, cornices, mouldings and original Chinese characters on the leftmost gable are delicately restored and purposely retained by the interior design studio Zarch Collaboratives.

The inspiration for the hotel's design came from the building itself - an iconic 1895 warehouse that stood in the midst of a hotbed of secret societies, underground activities, and liquor distilleries at the time. An introduction of fresh paint and new elements to the Warehouse Hotel brings a timeless and luxurious feel to the restoration, giving life to the new 37-room boutique hotel that opened in 2016.

A large, airy lobby with a double-height ceiling welcomes guests upon entry. Original warehouse trusses re-finished in black spans the width of the lobby. Decorative wheels and pulleys hanging from the ceiling pay tribute to the warehouse's history. Combined with brown leather sofas, original brick walls and intricate wall mouldings, the lobby gives off a vintage yet refined vibe, making it a wonderful place to relax with a couple Old Fashions while enjoying the waterfront view visible through the front windows.

The spatial configuration of the hotel sets the lobby and entryway in the middle of the volumes, while the rooms are split into two wings. Warm dark wood finishes combined with similar metallic detailing from the lobby creates a refined and luxurious living space for guests. Skylights and glass blocks are strategically incorporated throughout to enhance natural lighting. Open concept layouts in the guest room open up the space, extending length of the room while accentuating the character of the warehouse's former life.
