TRAVEL SERIES || A Walk Down Abbot Kinney in LA
Our vision is to take you on trips to cities around the world. Featuring the best local hangouts so you can experience life like a local on your adventures. Join us for a walk down the hip, colourful streets of Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice Beach, Los Angeles.
Before I arrived in Los Angeles, I had heard that Venice Beach was a hip spot that one must visit to see a different side of LA. So when I found out that my friend had booked our hotel in the area, I was excited to do some wandering by myself prior to her arrival. This is what I saw in the 5 hours I spent on my leisurely stroll discovering all the wonderful nooks and hangouts along Abbot Kinney Boulevard.
From my hotel, The Kinney, to the heart of Abbot Kinney Boulevard is about a 10-minute walk, and I got to see many captivating home exteriors. Some homes really stand out from the rest with their designed doorways, and others with their sharp, modern architectural lines.
LIVE, LAUGH, LAYER || Gorjana Jewelry
I visited 2 days in a row to buy bracelets and necklaces from this beautiful jewelry shop. The tasteful interiors make you want to stay and wander.
BEAUTIFUL STATIONARY || Urbanic Paper Boutique
A dedicated stationary lover, when I came across this beautiful shop I almost walked into oncoming traffic to get across the street to get inside. I easily spent half-an-hour browsing the various designed greeting cards, designer pens, and unique notebooks.
MAKE ME UP || SMASHBOX
This is the first standalone store for Smashbox in North America and is an exciting endeavour for the brand. Here, you can gain first access to select new items, and I may have left with more than a few exclusive items.
ARCHITECTURAL INSPIRATIONS || Design Details
From the exposed red brick exteriors to standout restaurant exteriors, floral trolleys and hipster bikes, design details are found everywhere to inspire you.
STREET MURALS || Everywhere
At every street corner there was a unique artistic mural to captivate my attention and my camera lens. One of the many reasons why it took me 5 hours to cover the span of a few city blocks.
I would visit Abbot Kinney Boulevard again and again, even if only to savour the various different wonderful restaurants and cafes they have along the street. Read our review on The Tasting Kitchen, one of the bustling, lively neighbourhood restaurants frequented by the community.
