THE SUMMER FRIDAYS FRENZY ON SOCIAL MEDIA || Trying out Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm for a Week
If you’re a frequent social media user of Instagram and TikTok, you may have seen the viral Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment or the Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm.
You may be surprised to learn that our lips are incredibly sensitive and vulnerable to dehydration. Unlike the rest of our skin, which contains oil glands to help retain moisture, our lips lack these glands, making them more susceptible to dryness and chapping. When our lips become dehydrated, they can become dry, cracked, and painful, leading to discomfort and even potential health issues.
We’ve previously tried the Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment and how it keeps our lips moisturized even through the dry, humid air. However, the frenzy is now with Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm, which comes in 8 different colours, with the newest one being Birthday Cake.
Of course, I had to hop on the trend and test things out for myself, so off to Sephora I go! It was great to see that the Summer Fridays Lip Balm has tinted and non-tinted options because, with my previous experience, lip colours, lip tints, and lipstick don’t sit well under a layer of balm, but with Summer Fridays, I would be able to get the best of both worlds.
After picking up Summer Fridays Pink Sugar and Vanilla Beige, I got to work and applied a layer of Pink Sugar. I did notice that, as advertised, it did add colour to my lips without me having to put on any additional lip makeup–just a slight pink tint. It kept my lips hydrated and smooth for more than 3 hours, and I realized I didn’t need to reapply the lip balm as frequently as I had with other brands.
With any lip balm, I should test out the product overnight and if it would keep my lips hydrated throughout the winter night, as my room would get quite dry with the heater on. Right before bed, I applied another layer and continued my nightly routine. When I woke up in the morning, I was quite happy with the results, as the product stayed and hydrated my lips through the night.
Now that I have tried the Pink Sugar lip balm, I had to see how the Vanilla Beige colour would look on me. The Vanilla Beige lip balm is slightly brown and darker and added a more neutral tone to my lips rather than the plump, pink tone that the Pink Sugar lip balm added. Needless to say, the Vanilla Beige lip balm is just as impressive as the Pink Sugar–given they are made with the same formula. However, I prefer the Pink Sugar because I find that the pink tone sits and looks better for my skin tone.
Would I buy this again? I think they are quite similar to the Laneige lip glowy balm. I would say that the Laneige lip balm is a bit stickier than Summer Fridays, and the Laneige lip balm doesn’t give me a tint of colour, which means I would have to apply additional makeup. I am quite happy with the results I’ve had with Summer Fridays, so I will definitely be purchasing this product again!
