DEVILLE COFFEE || This Alberta Cafe Brand Opens its First Location in Vancouver Downtown
It was still the tail end of our warm summer season in Vancouver when I visited Deville Coffee at Vancouver Waterfront.
The store opened its doors earlier in the week, and I heard from a colleague at work that ‘the interiors are chic, the coffee tastes good, and the cup design is nice’ (she’s a graphic designer). Those were strong points for me to visit, and she also told me, ‘I think you’d like it!’
So, I thought, what better way to spend my Saturday morning than on a short stroll to the cafe with my favourite book? The minimalist interior with high ceilings seems to have attracted a band of followers already. Every table was occupied when I showed up early afternoon during lunch hour. The cafe was abuzz with conversations: business meetings, friends catching up, and couples sharing a pastry with their coffees.
The counter of subdued mint green tiles against light wood creates a soothing atmosphere. Brass accents also add warmth to the environment.

A warm material palette with textured walls and cozy illumination from the lighting fixtures makes us want to linger for a while.
Deville Coffee has 13 stores open in Alberta across Calgary and Edmonton, with 12 stores in Calgary and one in Edmonton. Another store is set to open at YYC Airport. The brand’s first coffee hangout in British Columbia was opened in Kelowna, and I had walked by with my friend when we visited earlier this year. We had been too full from our lunch plans to sit down and enjoy another coffee, although we noted the stylish interiors of marble and wood as we passed by. This is why I paid extra attention to the cafe design when I visited the Vancouver location.
First, the airy high ceiling design with floor-to-ceiling windows helps to draw in an abundance of comforting natural light. Few pillars stand in the way to block the light, and I noted that visitors all looked comfortable in their seats, sinking into the armchairs with their headphones on and phones in hand or leaning back into the seat as they chatted away.
A warm and inviting colour palette with light wood, light mint green tiles for the cafe counter, wooden and circular marble tables, and light beige textured walls with abstract art in the complementary colour tones come together to establish a casual yet elevated atmosphere where one would want to linger.

While the pastries aren’t made in-house, they still go well with your coffee.
Now, on to the coffee and the food. I usually try an oat milk latte at every cafe I visit and a pastry (or two). While the pastries aren’t made in-house, the team has selected flavours and items that would complement their beverage offering.
I ordered my regular latte, an almond croissant and an apple pie. I enjoyed the croissant with my latte and thought it was buttery and flakey and went well with my latte. Another item I would have liked to try would be the chocolate chip cookie, which looked like it would be crispy around the edges and chewy in the center.
For those who love their thin, crispy and chewy chocolate chip cookies.

For coffee aficionados, Deville Coffee also offers Direct Trade coffee beans. You can order for your coffee beans to be delivered or pick up a bag when you visit the cafe. Choose from a Decaf Roast, Espresso Roast, Medium or Dark Roast, and finally, the Costa Rica Limited Edition.
Would I visit again? With this location close to my office, I find it to be a calming space to start my morning. The tables are adequately spaced out, so every guest has their own private space, whether it be for conversation or reflection. The high ceilings and light really make a difference in the vibe, and I think it’s a great location for a cafe. If you decide to visit, I hope you enjoy the experience as much as I did!
