LA GOCCIA || Dine in the Tranquil Central Courtyard Surrounded by Wild Flowers at Covent Garden
Welcome back to La Goccia at Covent Garden in London.
Peter Sham Nurseries re-opened its doors early July to welcome guests back to their Covent Garden Home, following a period of closure as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Benefiting from plenty of outdoor and open plan space, guests to the vibrant Italian restaurant La Goccia can opt to dine both indoors and alfresco in the secluded and tranquil central courtyard, accessible from King and Floral Street.
Surrounded by an abundance of wildflowers and lit up into the evening by festoon bulbs and candlelight, the hidden oasis will transport guests to a typical Italian courtyard where they can sip on limoncello spritz and Campari soda as the sun sets over the city. Taking cues from the European alfresco dining scene, chairs and tables from the courtyard will spill out onto King Street, welcoming locals and visitors from Covent Garden to stop and have a scoop of homemade sorbet, ice cream or a glass of granita.
For lunch and dinner, diners to La Goccia can begin as the Italians do with an aperitivo and selection of dishes for the table such as Anchovies with Garlic, Chilli and Parsley and Fried Zucchini Flowers. Each morning, the team will make their own fresh pasta from scratch for dishes including Vongole and Bottarga and Grilled Polenta with Mackerel. A selection of Pizzettes are made Romagna-style on a thin, crispy base, topped with ingredients such as Tallegio and Sage; Zucchini and Ricotta and Proscuitto Cotto. Next, there are meats and fish dishes such as Lamb Milanese; Grilled Langoustines, and Cuttlefish Skewers before desserts of Lemon Verbena, Panna Cotta with Summer Berries, and Chocolate Tart with Stracciatella Ice Cream.
The picture-perfect spread pictured above showcases dishes that are perfect for sharing, such as the Cuore del Vesuvio Tomato Carpaccio with Spring Onion, Fresh Basil, and Olive Oil, La Goccia’s Signature Chicken, and Ortiz Anchovies with Garlic, Chili, and Parsley.
For those considering dining at the restaurant, rest assured that La Goccia employs stringent cleaning and sanitization procedures to ensure the safety of all guests. Tables are arranged in a socially distanced manner, the staff has donned protective equipment, and a strict cleaning regime covers all touchpoints.
Not only does La Goccia promise a relaxing and whimsical outdoor dining experience, but guests can also browse the adjoining open plan Covent Garden shop, where they will be able to buy handpicked collections of homewares, furniture, and gifts carefully curated by the Petersham family.
The layout of the shop has been extended into The Gallery event space where guests can expect to see some exceptional larger pieces out on show under the atriums, including mid-century mirrors, leather safari chairs, travertine tables, Berber rugs, and unique antique lighting. From specialist one-of-a-kind pieces and beautiful antiques, through to handcrafted items and accessories. The shop continues to be a destination for inspirational objects rooted in provenance and individuality. Personal shopping is available by appointment, and if you prefer to shop at home, you can even shop via a Zoom call.
So stop for a visit at La Goccia for an extended lunch to catch up with friends and then head over to the shop to browse through the brand’s curated collection. Sounds like the perfect day off to us, wouldn’t you agree?
