THE FLYING PIG || The Perfect Happy Hour Spot for Comfort Eats
The Flying Pig in Vancouver has always been one of our staple spots to satisfy our comfort food cravings.
With the past week’s weather taking on a menacing turn with pouring rain and mighty winds, we couldn’t think of a better place to be than in the cozy booths at The Flying Pig, enjoying some of their Happy Hour share plates and famous side dishes.
There are definitely some must-try items on the menu, which according to our super-friendly server: ‘if you don’t try the Brussels Sprouts then you haven’t really been here’. We second that opinion because the Brussels Sprouts are amazing. We loved our server because you could tell she was so passionate about the menu items she was recommending. When was the last time you experienced that?
So, the big question - what are some of the must-eats on the menu?
Let us start with the Bone Marrow Cheezy Bread. I think just that description alone will have most of us rushing to get our order in. For those who love their fatty, flavourful dishes, you cannot miss out on the creamy texture of the fat and the savoury juices that are to die for; add that to the cheese toast and it’s a slice of heaven.
The Brussels Sprouts are also extremely flavourful and crispy - we highly recommend it and in fact, you might want to order one just for yourself so you don’t have to share. They are made to perfection with crispy top layers and a softer inner texture where all of the tangy, salty flavours are concentrated.
The Pulled Pork Sandwiches are served with fluffy, tiny brioche buns stuffed full with pulled pork marinated in a sweet, tangy sauce that we couldn’t get enough of (could we please get 4 more of the sliders please?) Each order comes with 2 sliders, so if you are visiting with co-workers or a group of friends, make sure to order a few more.
If comfort food means carb-loading for you, then the Happy Hour menu offers plenty of options, with items like Andrew’s Pulled Pork Poutine and the Truffled Jumbo Macaroni (a 4 Cheese Mac and Cheese).
The Happy Hour menu also offers a variety of drinks at reasonable prices, such as the House Red or White Wine at $6.50, White or Red Sangria also at $6.50, TFP Lager at $5.50, and for those who enjoy their Rose, a 6oz glass from Dirty Laundry comes in at $9.
If you still have room in your stomach after all of these fabulous eats then those with a sweet tooth should try the desserts as well. The house signature cake is a Vanilla Bourbon Chocolate cake and the dense yet moist texture of the cake will send you over the moon. Can you tell we love dessert?
With such a wondrous food spread pictured above, you would guess that the check would be hefty, but with The Flying Pig’s Happy Hour pricing, all of these items came to just over $70! If you are looking for a cozy space to curl up with a cheesy pasta or a bowl of pulled pork poutine, The Flying Pig in Gastown’s Happy Hour menu will be a definite crowd-pleaser for you and your friends.
Did we mention that Thursdays are extra special because the Happy Hour menu is available ALL-DAY? What are you waiting for? Check out the rest of the mouth-watering comfort food items on their menu and make your reservation today. The restaurant is open for dine-in, takeout, or delivery.
