FLAMINGO ROOM BY TASHAS || Opulence and Grandeur to Stimulate All Your Senses

Flamingo Room by tashas located in Dubai provides grand and opulent stimuli for all your senses.

Designed by Sydney-based boutique design studio BaSStudio, the core interior design concept focused on craft. The UAE is renowned for its extravagance, grandeur, and opulence, which is why the team wanted to bring a sense of honesty and imperfection to the dining landscape without using stereotypical African design elements.

BaSStudio collaborated with South African and Australian artists to explore and execute a delicate balance between luxury and whimsy. The color palette balances softer colors like beige, salmon pink, and ocean turquoise with lavish gold accents. The team also plays with texture and proportion, with oversized brass-coated banana leaves, glass discs, and scalloped mirrors replicating enlarged fish scales to create a playful dining atmosphere.

Another design challenge the team had to tackle was with the building’s footprint, which presented the space with three angular boxes that required them to tie them into a single, seamless experience. An abstract interpretation of the African baobab tree by South Africa artist, Mike Hyam ties all three areas together seamlessly.

In addition to the interior design, the team also placed significant emphasis on secondary design elements, which impact the user experience tremendously. Correct lighting at different times of the day is instrumental to establish the right mood, the same as the music selection. The presentation of food and drink remains the main act, and the interior design provides a wondrous backdrop for it all.

In the dining area, hand-blown glass discs appear to float delicately overhead — a scene that seems to have been taken from the pages of a fairytale where a protagonist ventures out into the wild. Green and white accents are delicately illuminated by Gobo lighting to create the illusion of everchanging tree shadows dancing on the floor.

Vibrant, salmon-colored Venetian Stucco is beautifully reflected in the scalloped, antique mirror wall cladding. The luminance of the hundreds of scalloped mirrors lining the dining area creates a faint-glow and ethereal vibe for each of the seating booths against the wall.

Mixing high and low seating options, the dining areas use custom made chairs by South African company, Egg Design. The chairs, made of solid brass with velvets and faux ostrich colored leather, give the furniture more textural interest.

Another design highlight of the space is the terrazzo bar, located at the back of the space featuring 3-meter tall, hand-chiseled, brass-coated banana leaves, creating a magical backdrop and centerpiece for the restaurant.

A visit to Flamingo Room by tashas in Dubai guarantees a more is more design and culinary experience. The interior provides an immersive experience that embodies the grandeur one would expect of a restaurant located in Dubai, yet also unmistakably portrays African-inspired cultural elements through vibrant design details.
