POP POT || A Fusion of Roman Elegance and Modern Pop Art at Milan Design Week

At Milan Design Week 2024, the Fuorisalone district has become a vibrant celebration of colour and innovation, thanks to the launch of the POP POT collection.

These striking amphorae, created by architects Arabella Rocca and Giacomo Sanna, seamlessly blend ancient Roman design with the vivid hues of contemporary pop art, all brought to life through cutting-edge 3D printing technology.

The journey of POP POT began in 2020, during the quiet days of the lockdown. Rocca and Sanna, inspired by the historical richness of their surroundings, sought to create something that would both honour the past and enliven the present. What started as a design project aimed at transforming domestic spaces has now evolved into a full-fledged startup with international reach, boasting locations in Rome and Foligno, and presence at prestigious trade fairs like Maison Object and Edit Napoli.

The POP POT collection is a testament to the versatility of design and the creative fusion of tradition with modernity. Each amphora in the collection is unique, made from environmentally friendly materials such as cornstarch and recycled plastic, showcasing a commitment to sustainability. This eco-conscious approach is further exemplified by the iconic Neptune pot, crafted from PLA derived from discarded fishing nets, and ongoing experiments with PLA made from coffee waste.

But POP POT is more than just a collection of beautiful objects; it’s a cultural statement. These amphorae, with their bold colors and customizable designs, are not only functional but also serve as art pieces, often found in museum bookshops around the world. They invite us to see beauty and sustainability as intertwined imperatives, urging a reevaluation of how we approach design in our everyday lives.

While the eye-catching colours of the pop colour POP POT designs draw most of the attention, those who prefer a more subdued approach can opt for elegant pastel POP POT amphorae.

The vibrancy of the POP POT collection is undeniable. From the bright pinks and purples to the more subdued pastels, each pot tells a story of innovation and creativity. The designs are a playful nod to the past while embracing the future, making them a perfect fit for any contemporary space looking to add a touch of historical flair with a modern twist.

POP POT reminds us that the blend of craftsmanship and technology can lead to something truly extraordinary. It’s a celebration of history, colour, and sustainability, all wrapped into one.
