LA SCHAISE BY SMARIN || Designed to Avoid the Sedentary Lifestyle of Office Work
Which of us hasn’t experienced back pain as a result of sitting in a stiff, upright position at work?
Or worse yet, hunched over our keyboards with rounded shoulders peering intensely at the computer screen?
Enter la sChaise.
la sChaise meets all the current criteria of ergonomics experts.
la sChaise, designed by smarin, has a seat that allows rebound. It is the first chair that offers the possibility of avoiding a sedentary lifestyle in office work and of developing dynamism.
la sChaise is an object that provokes the invention of new postures.
Watch it in action below.
posture n.:
in medicine, posture is the active process of developing and maintaining the configuration of different body segments in space.
it expresses and prepares to respond to the way the body deals with situations in the outside world.
THERAPEUTIC OBJECTS THROUGH MECHANICS
In 2012, smarin started to explore in more depth the continual gestures within our daily routines. These observations determined a number of ‘bad habits’ that can lead to wear and tear. Changing these habits and using a good practice helps maintain health capital and develop your faculties such as circulatory or muscular dynamics, and flexibility.
At first glance, la sChaise may not look like your solution to developing an improved posture, but the main benefit we observe after watching the demonstration video is how it provides, quite literally, a bounce in your posture and hence flexibility for your spine. Sitting long hours in the same position in a chair with a stiff seat means you are applying pressure onto your spine in the same spot over an extended period of time, and that can’t be good for you in the short, mid or long term.
Take a closer look at the design details of the la sChaise to determine if it can be your solution to your persistent sore back and bad posture habits. We appreciate the research and consumer observation that has gone into the design, meaning the resulting end product works for the user, not the other way around where the user is adapting their body to fit into a chair that simply ‘looks good’.
Oh, and extra points for the sleek and space-saving packaging it comes in.
