OUTDOOR SERIES || Deer Lake Kayaking

It was two weekends ago when we were invited to join in on a community photoshoot in Burnaby. One of our stops happened to be Deer Lake, where we basked in the summer sunset, and watched as families, friends, and couples ventured out onto the lake in kayaks.

Most people usually head to the North Shore to Deep Cove in North Vancouver for a few hours of kayaking or canoeing, and we were not aware of Deer Lake as an alternative, a much more beginner-friendly alternative we should say, that would be perfect for families with children.

The staff at Deer Lake Boat Rentals are extremely helpful and within ten-minutes of our arrival we were set up with a kayak, life vests and paddles for our photoshoot talent. The waters here are calmer than what you would find at the North Shore, where we found it more easy to leave the dock but much more difficult to paddle back into the cove as the current surged the opposing direction.

With ample parking you also won't need to battle hikers as you would in Deep Cove, where many do the Quarry Rock hike to start their morning.

If you do decide to visit ask for Damien, he will get you set up in no time! We hope you enjoy at last one weekend day in Deer Lake to wrap up your summer activities!
