YUZU || Tasty Mini Japanese Sandwiches Perfect for a Spring Picnic

The first signs of spring are all around us; sunshine, birds chirping, new leaves and greenery sprouting from the ground.

The winter cold kept using dining indoors, but now we are ready to head out into the sunshine with our picnic blanket to bask in the spring sunshine. What shall we bring? Some fruits for the little ones, sweet tomatoes, and of course, mini sandwiches!

The lunch set comes with 4 mini sandwiches and a small bucket of chicken nuggets.

We’ve found a new hidden gem in Vancouver with Japanese-style mini sandwiches you and your little ones would love. The bite-size sandwiches come in a variety of flavours: Ebi (fried prawn), Beef (beef teriyaki with cheese), Agedashi Tofu (Japanese-style fried tofu), Tamago (sweet egg), Pork Katsu (fried pork cutlet), and Chicken Katsu (fried chicken cutlet).

The beef sandwich with cheese after we microwaved it for 30 seconds. We recommend that 15 seconds may be just enough to melt the cheese a little without overdoing it.

If you order a lunch set, it comes with 2 set sandwich flavours, beef and tofu, and you can choose 2 other flavours to complete the 4-piece sandwich set. The set also comes with a box of fried chicken nuggets paired with spicy mayo sauce on the side.

The 4-piece set comes in a little box to make it easy to throw in your bag to carry down to the park. They’re also individually wrapped to make it easier to eat without making a mess. Our favourite flavours from our set would be the Ebi and Tamago flavours. While the beef and tofu sandwiches have more flavour, we like the Ebi sandwich for its crispy crunchy fried tempura prawn and the sweet egg sandwich for the super thick egg cube.

The sweet egg Tamago sandwich comes with a thick cube of egg!

Aside from the 4-piece lunch set, Yuzu also offers a 2-piece breakfast set that is served until 11AM, so depending on how hungry you are, you can get 2 or 4 mini sandwiches. There are also some Japanese specialties we have yet to try, like the spicy curry bun, yuzu panna cotta, and hojicha panna cotta. Scroll further down the menu and you’ll discover their homemade ice cream with flavours like Yuzu Pear and Hojicha. We would love to give all of these items a try and we can’t wait to shop at the store.

The chicken nuggets come with a spicy mayonnaise sauce on the side, so both adults and children can enjoy this as a snack.

You can order for pick up from the little shop located between W 14th and W 15th Ave on Cambie Street, or have it delivered to you from one of the food delivery apps. We hope you enjoy these mini sandwiches as much as we did!
