PUREBREAD || A Single Bite of These Irresistible Pastries Will Make You Happier
They say money can’t buy happiness.
Before I came across Purebread’s pastries during a short getaway to Whistler a few years ago, I would have agreed with this saying, but once I had a bite of their Lemon Blueberry Basil scone, I changed my mind.
Purebread has a wide selection of pastries, and now their 3 locations in Vancouver and original location in Whistler are open for takeout purchases. A wide selection of pastries and bread line the windows, making it the best kind of window shopping one can engage in.
Just imagine moving from the meringue section over to the decadent chocolate brownies section, followed by sweet loaves, mini cakes, and fruit crumbles, and ending with scones and bread. Oh wait, there are also jars filled with cookies at the till.
If sweets aren’t to your liking and you favor savoury pastries, there are plenty of options to choose from, like their Cheddar Jalapeño Loaf, Bacon Sour Cream & Chives Scones, and Veggie Sausage Rolls. If it’s your first time visiting Purebread at any of their locations, you would be hard-pressed not to leave with a big box of goodies.
As a long-time supporter of this local bakery, ever since their farmer’s market days at Hillcrest Community Centre, we still find ourselves feeling like a kid in a candy shop whenever we stroll up to Purebread’s pastry-decorated windows.
This time we left with a box of goodies filled with decadent sweets: a vegan peanut butter chocolate baby cake, lemon raspberry bar, salted caramel pie, and our all-time favourite, a lemon basil blueberry scone.
The feeling of breaking the salted caramel pie in two is so satisfying. After all, who doesn’t love salted caramel? And in the form of two delicious cookies with a creamy filling? Yes please!
We haven’t tried their vegan pastries before, so this time we brought home the peanut butter and chocolate baby cake, and we are so glad we did.
This baby cake is super moist, and the cake itself isn’t too sweet but the texture is so lovely because it simply melts in your mouth. Add to this the peanut butter cream at the top and every bite is a taste of heaven. To give you a sense of how good this cake is, we have visited 2 other locations on different occasions after this to try and buy this cake again but it sadly hasn’t made an appearance at the bakery’s window since we discovered it.
The selection of cakes and pastries change with each location and on different days, but there are staples like the scones and breads that are usually available daily. Make sure to be adventurous on your visit and try several items. We guarantee you won’t regret it!
