FORET NOIRE || A Sweet Treat From Day to Night

You will have a tough time deciding which pastries and chocolates to try in one sitting.

Of course you will return often once you visit Foret Noire once. The high-end french pastry shop specializes in delectable artisanal pastries and chocolates. Foret Noire opened in November of 2018, when Mazen Jaridly, who has been in the food business for twenty-seven years, saw a gap in the Vancouver market for high-end french pastries. Originally from Toronto, Mazen had lived abroad in Europe, and has always been passionately involved in french pasty related businesses. He recruited Executive Chef Christian Lai Chun, the former patisserie and chocolatier artisan from the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and instructor at the Pacific Institution Culinary Arts in Canada to lead the efforts at Foret Noire.

It is evident that Mazen Jaridly has struck upon a great opportunity, because though Foret Noire is his first location, the brand has already sold a franchise in L.A. and Shanghai, with another location opening soon in North Vancouver. True to its french roots, the name choice ‘Foret Noire’ means 'Black Forest’ in French (though the cake has German roots). Mazen’s talent extends beyond the ability to spot business opportunities, his utilized his interest in design to create the bright and airy interiors, which showcases a modern design while integrating nature elements like maple wood.

Mazen shared that all of the cakes served are traditional and authentic french cakes, but the team has modernized the look of each with their creativity.

Picking just two desserts is a tough decision at Foret Noire, and we finally settled on a classic option - a dense and creamy baked cheesecake topped with blueberries and homemade blueberry jam - and the Savarin, a creative cake infused with rum citrus syrup with aged rum in a tiny capsule stuck into the cake and topped with vanilla mascarpone chantilly and apricot glaze.

We also tried out the delicious hot beverages perfect for warming up on a cold winter day. The Spiced Chai Latte and Lavender Latte with White Chocolate. Whether you prefer warm and spicy or sweet, the beverage list has you covered.

Foret Noire is open from the early hours, from 7am to 9pm on weekdays and 8am to 9pm on weekends. Early risers can pop by to enjoy their morning coffee in the bright space with a buttery croissant.
