BOOSA CAFE || Modern Middle East Meets Melbourne Minimal

Translating to ‘kiss’ in Arabic, Boosa is a charming Melbourne cafe with a modern, Middle Eastern flair.

An inviting colourful storefront paired with a rich material palette celebrates the café’s vibrant breakfast and lunch menu as well as its Middle Eastern roots. A genuine, elegant, and timeless environment invites guests to sit back, relax and enjoy their mornings and afternoons over vibrant food items that complement the laid-back interior. Designed by Australia-based interior design firm, Kestie Lane Studio, the biggest challenge for the design team was to create an authentic environment that embraces the Middle Eastern culture without being themed or condescending.

Thoughtful touches in the café includes the wall light fixtures that double as a menu holder

An open and inviting store front

To create an authentic environment that is approachable and welcoming to local diners, elements from the ‘quintessential’ Melbourne-style cafe designs are incorporated to create an inviting interior where East meets West. Upon entering the establishment, guests are welcomed into a bright and airy space filled with natural light that pours through from the large, floor to ceiling glass panels that shields the cafe from the bustling sidewalk. In front of the glass facade, patio space just outside the door invites sun-loving individuals to bask in the sun on a warm day.

Glossy white tiles embraces the “quintessential” Melbourne café design

The interior references Middle Eastern culture through the use of colours and a rich material palette. Pink terrazzo, green accents, and the use of timber and brass details add to the energy of the space and pays homage to the Café’s roots.

To balance out the vibrant, Middle Eastern design are the ‘quintessential Melbourne’ café elements such as glossy white tiles, polished concrete, matte black fixtures and fittings, and of course, draping greeneries that bring a pop of colour and liveliness.

When asked how this project is unique, the design team emphasized on the owner’s persistence and focus on creating custom-made elements for the establishment. “Boosa Café was a true labour of love with no cutting corners - the owners more or less constructed the cafe themselves with a team of friends and family”, described the design team.
